How we look after your information
Last updated: 12 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information The Rise Initiative collects through this website, why we collect it and what your rights are. We have tried to keep it short and clear. If anything is unclear, please ask us.
Who we are
We are The Rise Initiative CIC, a community interest company based in Surrey, UK (company number 17356139). We are the "data controller" for the information described here, which means we decide how it is used and are responsible for keeping it safe.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at info@theriseinitiativecic.org.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us. When you use the form on our website or email us, we receive:
- your name and email address
- who you are getting in touch as, for example a student, graduate or employer
- the name of your school, university or organisation, if you tell us
- whatever you write in your message.
Please don't include sensitive details in your first message, such as information about your health. If we ever need anything like that to support you, we will ask for it separately and explain why.
Why we use it
We use your information to:
- reply to your enquiry
- talk to you about taking part in our programmes, mentoring or partnering with us
- keep a record of our conversation so we can follow up properly.
Data protection law says we need a lawful reason to do this. Ours is "legitimate interests": you have asked us something and we need your details to answer and to run our organisation sensibly. We will not send you newsletters or marketing unless you have asked us to, and you can change your mind at any time.
If you are under 18
Much of our work is with young people, so we take extra care with your information. If you are under 16, please ask a parent, carer or teacher to contact us for you. If you join one of our programmes, we will give you, and your parent or carer where appropriate, a separate notice explaining what further information we need and how we will use it.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We do not pass it to employers, schools or anyone else without telling you first and, where needed, asking your permission.
Your message reaches us by email, so it is held by our email provider on our behalf. We would only share information more widely if the law required it, or if we were seriously worried about someone's safety.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiries for up to 12 months after we last heard from you, then delete them. If you go on to take part in a programme or become a partner, we will tell you how long we keep the records that go with that.
Cookies and tracking
This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. The form opens your own email app to send your message, so nothing you type is stored on the website.
Our pages on LinkedIn and Facebook are run on those companies' platforms. If you follow the links to them, their own privacy policies apply.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask what information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong
- ask us to delete your information
- ask us to stop or limit how we use it
- object to us using it.
To use any of these rights, email info@theriseinitiativecic.org. It is free, and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy
Please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the way we use your information changes, and change the date at the top when we do.
